  • Portrait of the American Traveler: This report profiles the Corpus Christi Visitor Prospect, defined as those who intend to take at least one overnight leisure trip during the next 12 months and who are interested in visiting Corpus Christi, Texas (4 or 5 on a 5-point scale)within the upcoming two years.

  • National Travel and Tourism Week: Every year, the U.S. Travel Association commemorates National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW). This years tribute will take place from May 19-25, highlighting the indispensable contribution of travel in propelling our nation's economy, fostering lively communities, and fostering meaningful connections. 

Organizational & Operations

  • We are thrilled to announce the promotions of Meredith Darden to Chief Operations Officer and Nicole Olivares to Chief Sales Officer. Meredith's exceptional organizational skills and strategic vision have been instrumental in streamlining our operations and driving our mission forward. Nicole's outstanding sales acumen and ability to forge strong client relationships have significantly boosted our market presence and revenue growth. Their dedication and leadership have been pivotal to our success, and we are excited to see them excel in their new roles.

  • On April 17th, Visit Corpus Christi hosted the 2nd Annual Tourism & Hospitality Industry Workforce Development Summit at the newly renovated Holiday Inn Airport Hotel & Conference Center. Despite a decrease in job openings from last year, 1.6k leisure and hospitality positions remain unfilled, still 23% above pre-pandemic levels. The summit aimed to address these challenges, featuring key leaders like Derrick Majchszak from Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority and Debbie Wieland from the Texas Hotel Lodging Association.

Convention Sales & Services

  • Nicole and Travis spearheaded a successful Houston Sales Mission, collaborating with Texas Society of Association Executives and MPI Houston Area Chapter to sponsor a series of engaging meeting planner events. Additionally, they secured a strategic meeting with the Association Management Consultants team to explore promising new business opportunities for Corpus Christi. These proactive initiatives highlight our commitment to forging strong partnerships and seizing opportunities to showcase our destination's offerings to key industry planners.

  • Travis and Mallori kicked off the Austin sales efforts at the annual TSAE Open where they and our community partners hosted four clients for some friendly competition. Corpus Christi also hosted Beat the Pro where over 30 people took their shot at beating the Golf Pro's score. In coordination with the American Bank Center team, Travis also visited with two potential convention center clients. To wrap up the week, Travis hosted his first MPI educational session and networking event as an MPI Board Member. This event had over 40 members in attendance from around the Austin area.

  • In April, Visit Corpus Christi joined our industry around the world to celebrated Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) Summit in Corpus Christi. GMID serves as a powerful platform for advocacy, highlighting the profound impact of meetings and events on communities worldwide. Through collaborative efforts, we celebrate the economic contributions of the industry, recognizing the role meetings play in driving growth, fostering innovation, and enhancing the vitality of our communities. As we reflect on GMID, we reaffirm our commitment to championing the meetings industry and its invaluable contributions to our local and global economies. #MeetingsMatter. 

Marketing & Communications 

  • Fall Advertising cooperative opportunities are open to partners interested in participating in shared advertising with Visit Corpus Christi. To learn more and get on the list, email Emily Zertuche at emily@visitcorpuschrisiti.com.

  • Recently, Brooklyn, N.Y.-based independent journalist Jeff Heilman had the opportunity to explore the Gulf Coast Capital to partner with the destination in sharing it's unique story. Jeff has been a Senior Contributor to Meetings Today since 2004, including writing the annual Texas supplements since it's inception. 

  • Join us in celebrating our very own Director of Communications America Segura for being named one of Destinations International's 2024 30 Under 30 future leaders in the destination organization industry! America leads national and international public relations and communications initiatives with a world-class communication strategy that resonates with millions around the globe by showcasing the Gulf Coast Capital story.

  • Malaquite Beach, North Beach, and Whitecap Beach have been nominated for the "Best Beach in Texas" in USA TODAY 10Best's Readers’ Choice Awards. Readers can vote once daily until Monday, May 20th at 11:59 AM EDT. The top 10 winners, ranked by USA TODAY 10Best readers, will be announced on Wednesday, May 29th at noon EDT.

Sports Commission 

  • In April, the Sports Commission team attended the Sports ETA Symposium in Portland, OR, where they engaged in one-on-one meetings with 40 sports event planners to expand their network and foster future collaborations. They also participated in industry educational sessions to stay updated on sports tourism trends. A highlight was the Texas Tuesday event, where Texas DMOs hosted a memorable evening for 80 sports event planners.

  • Breanna Martinez and Emily Rees volunteered at the Area 2 Corpus Christi Spring Games, hosted by Special Olympics Texas, dedicating their time and hearts to this special cause. With warmth and enthusiasm, they helped create an inclusive and uplifting environment for the athletes, embodying camaraderie and support. Their efforts, from cheering on participants to assisting with logistics, ensured the event ran smoothly and provided joyous experiences for all involved, exemplifying the power of community and the transformative impact of their contributions.

  • The Sports Commission recently participated in the IAF Golf Tournament, using their booth to promote their mission and upcoming endeavors, including the Coastal Bend Sports Hall of Fame and Awards Show. They highlighted their commitment to sports excellence and community engagement, while also forging valuable connections with community partners to enrich the local sports landscape.

Experience & Visitor Services

  • The Gulf Coasters program made a splash over Spring Break, enhancing the experience for Corpus Christi's 10 million annual visitors. Returning for another peak season, Gulf Coasters were stationed at key locations like North Beach, Downtown, Padre Island, and Mustang Island, promoting partner events and offerings. They collected over 400 surveys, providing valuable traveler insights. This initiative aims to elevate guest experiences and showcase the best of the Gulf Coast Capital.

  • Join us at the Corpus Christi Visitor Information Center for the Art Walk activation on June 7, as we kickstart the season with a "Summer Coastal Soiree" with our special vendor and local Corpus Christi business, Rose Soiree Floral Bar, a black and woman-owned floral studio. Rose Soiree specializes in floral bars, and special events (think birthday, bridal & baby showers, etc.), loves to host workshops all over the Coastal Bend for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Dia de los Muertos, and other really great festive holidays! Stop by and build your own bouquet at the Visitor Information Center (309 N Water Street Suite D) at Artwalk on June 7th from 5 - 8 p.m. 

     

Film and Music Commission

  • The Corpus Christi Film Commission, in partnership with Texas A&M Corpus Christi, proudly participated in the Festival De Cine Latino Americano-Corpus Christi, a film festival brought to Corpus Christi and launched in 2015. This film festival showcases international Latino and Latin American films and promotes representation of Latino filmmakers and creatives. The festival highlights innovative, original, and thought-provoking works that celebrate and uplift the Latino community.
